Philip Ng Chee Tat was born on September 16, 1958, to Ng Teng Fong, the founder of Far East Organization, and Tan Kim Choo. He spent his youth in Chicago, Illinois, before returning to Hong Kong to pursue acting and martial arts choreography. Ng studied civil engineering at the University of London, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. He furthered his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), earning two Master's degrees in Technology and Policy and City Planning in 1985.
