He studied theology, earning degrees from the Evangelical School of Theology and the Faculty of Theological Education in São Paulo. He also received a doctorate in theology and Christian philosophy.
Rise to Success
Macedo's career began in 1963 as a public worker. However, he transitioned to evangelical Christianity, founding the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) in 1977. The church grew rapidly, and Macedo acquired Rede Record, a major Brazilian television network, in 1989, transforming it into a significant media conglomerate. He expanded his media holdings, which includes a news channel, and diversified into other media ventures.
Key Business Strategies
Macedo's key business strategy involved leveraging the rapid growth of the UCKG to acquire and expand his media empire. He utilized prosperity theology, which emphasizes that faith and commitment to the church are rewarded with material wealth. This approach, combined with strategic acquisitions, such as Rede Record, enabled him to build a considerable fortune. He also owns a majority stake in the private Brazilian bank Banco Digimais.
Philanthropy
The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) operates numerous social care programs globally, offering spiritual and material support. The church has also been involved in various social initiatives, including providing food, clothing, and shelter to impoverished communities.
