Early Life and Education
Eduardo Luiz Saverin was born in São Paulo, Brazil, to a wealthy Jewish-Brazilian family. In 1993, his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Miami, Florida. Saverin attended Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami. He then attended Harvard University, where he was a resident of Eliot House, a member of the Phoenix S.K. Club, and president of the Harvard Investment Association. While an undergraduate at Harvard, he used his interest in meteorology to predict hurricane patterns and made $300,000 via investment in oil futures. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
Rise to Success
Saverin's career took off when he co-founded Facebook with Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. He provided the initial funding of $1,000 and later an additional $18,000 and served as the chief financial officer and business manager. However, due to legal disputes, Saverin's role diminished, and his shares were diluted. The disputes were settled in 2009, affirming his co-founder title. After leaving Facebook, Saverin moved to Singapore in 2009 and renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2011, subsequently establishing himself as an investor. He co-founded the venture capital firm B Capital in 2015.
