Early Life
Ravi Pillai was born on September 2, 1953, in Chavara, Kollam district, Kerala, India. He came from a farming family and started a chit fund business while at the University of Cochin, where he earned a degree in Commerce and later a postgraduate degree in business administration. His early ventures included an engineering contract business in Kerala, which he had to close down due to a labor strike.
Rise to Success
In 1978, Ravi Pillai moved to Saudi Arabia and established Nasser S. Al Hajri Corporation (NSH) with 150 employees, which became the cornerstone of the RP Group. He built this construction business during the Middle East's construction boom. NSH grew rapidly, securing major contracts and expanding across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Pillai's strategy included partnering with a well-connected local businessman to establish his construction business. He focused on delivering high-quality work at competitive costs. Over the years, he diversified his business interests into hospitality, healthcare, and education. The RP Group expanded its operations to multiple countries, employing a significant number of people.
Philanthropy
Ravi Pillai is known for his philanthropic endeavors through the RP Foundation. The RP Foundation provides educational scholarships, medical aid, and disaster relief. In 2021, the RP Foundation set up a fund of $1.9 million (Rs 15 crore) to support families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
