Early Life
Ravi Pillai was born in 1953 in Chavara, a coastal town in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. He grew up in a farming family and developed entrepreneurial ambitions from a young age. Pillai earned a degree in Commerce from the University of Cochin. He began his career by starting a chit fund and an engineering contract business in Kerala.
Rise to Success
Pillai's journey took a significant turn when he moved to Saudi Arabia in 1978. He founded the Nasser S. Al Hajri Corporation (NSH), which became the flagship company of the RP Group. Initially, the company had 150 employees. He focused on the construction sector, particularly in the Gulf region, which experienced rapid growth. The RP Group expanded to include construction, hospitality, steel, cement, and oil and gas industries. Pillai's strategic vision and ability to identify opportunities led to the growth of the RP Group into a global business entity with a presence across various countries.

Pillai's key business strategies included focusing on the construction sector in the Gulf region. He also diversified the RP Group into hospitality, manufacturing, and engineering. His focus on delivering projects on time and within budget was also critical to the group's success. The RP Group has completed projects worth over $25 billion, including major projects for Saudi Aramco and Kuwait National Petroleum Company.

Ravi Pillai has contributed to various philanthropic initiatives, including healthcare and education. He is involved in healthcare through Upasana Hospital and Research Centre, a multi-specialty hospital in Kollam. He has also been involved in supporting educational institutions.
