Dennis Washington was born in Spokane, Washington, in 1934. He spent his formative years in Spokane, Bremerton, and Missoula, Montana. Growing up, he faced challenges, including his parents' separation, which instilled in him a strong work ethic and the desire to build a stable life.
Rise to Success
At the age of 30, Washington started his construction business with a $30,000 loan and a single bulldozer. By 1969, Washington Construction had become the largest contractor in Montana. He expanded into mining and dam construction in the 1970s. A pivotal moment came in 1986 when he acquired a copper and molybdenum mine in Butte, Montana, which proved highly profitable. Washington diversified further into railroads, marine services, coastal shipping, aviation, and real estate. In 1996, he acquired Morrison-Knudsen Corporation, forming Washington Group International.
