Early Life

Mohed Altrad's life began in Raqqa, Syria, circa March 1948. His early life was marked by hardship; he was orphaned at a young age and raised by his maternal grandmother. Despite these challenges, and against his grandmother's wishes, Altrad pursued education, eventually earning a scholarship to study in France.

Rise to Success

After completing his education with a PhD in computer science, Altrad worked for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. In 1985, he acquired a bankrupt scaffolding company in France, which became the foundation of the Altrad Group. Under his leadership, the Altrad Group has grown into a global leader in industrial services and equipment manufacturing, with a presence in nearly 100 markets. The Group employs around 65,000 people.

Altrad's business strategy involved both organic growth and strategic acquisitions. The group has expanded through numerous acquisitions, including Hertel, Prezioso Linjebygg, and Cape plc, transforming it from a construction equipment manufacturer to a leader in industrial services.
