Gérard Paul Philippe Wertheimer was born on April 17, 1951, to Jacques Wertheimer and Eliane Fischer in Paris, France. He grew up in a Jewish family, and his grandfather, Pierre Wertheimer, co-founded Chanel with Coco Chanel in 1924.

Rise to Success

Gerard, along with his brother Alain, inherited Chanel from their father in 1996. Gérard oversees the watch division while Alain manages the fashion division. Under their leadership, Chanel has grown into a global luxury brand. Gérard also owns vineyards in France and Napa Valley, as well as a thoroughbred horse racing stable.
