Luiz Frias was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1964. He is the son of Octávio Frias de Oliveira, the former president of Grupo Folha. Luiz Frias holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of São Paulo and has master's degrees from the University of Cambridge, England, and the University of Paris (Sorbonne), France.
