Early Life
Erman Ilicak was born on October 3, 1967, in Darende, Malatya, Turkey. He completed his secondary education at TED Ankara College in 1985. Ilicak pursued his higher education in civil engineering, graduating from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1990.
Rise to Success
Ilıcak began his career in the construction industry, gaining experience working for ENKA İnşaat. In 1993, at the age of 26, he founded Rönesans İnşaat, which later became Rönesans Holding. Under his leadership, the company expanded rapidly, undertaking construction projects in various countries. Rönesans Holding became a major player in the construction and real estate development sectors. It was listed in the ENR "World's Top 250 International Contractors" list in 2006 and has consistently ranked among the top 10 largest international contractors in Europe since 2015.
Key Business Strategies
Ilıcak's business strategy involved strategic diversification, expanding Rönesans Holding's activities into real estate, energy, healthcare, and other sectors. He formed key partnerships, including one with the Singaporean investment fund GIC. Ilicak also made significant international acquisitions. The company's revenue reached $3.52 billion in 2024. Rönesans Holding has also been investing in renewable energy, and in 2023, it transferred 50% of Rönesans Enerji's shares to TotalEnergies.
Philanthropy
Erman Ilicak is dedicated to philanthropy, particularly in education. He established the Rönesans Eğitim Vakfı (Rönesans Education Foundation) in 2009. Through the foundation, he supports educational infrastructure and scholarships, helping over 100,000 students in Turkey. He co-founded TED Rönesans Koleji, demonstrating a strong commitment to youth development.
