Early Life and Education
Selçuk Bayraktar was born on October 7, 1979, in Istanbul, Turkey. He graduated from Robert College in 1997. He pursued higher education at Istanbul Technical University, earning a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2002. He then received a Master of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania's GRASP Laboratory in 2004 and a second Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2006. His early research focused on UAV formation flights and robot coordination.
Rise to Success
Bayraktar returned to Turkey in 2007 and became the CTO of Baykar. Under his leadership, Baykar developed the Bayraktar Mini UAV and the Bayraktar TB2, a tactical armed drone. The TB2 has been used in several conflicts and has become a cornerstone of the Turkish Armed Forces and has been exported to many countries. Baykar has become a leading exporter in the UAV market. He also developed the Bayraktar AKINCI UCAV and is currently leading the development of the Bayraktar TB3 and Bayraktar KIZILELMA, Turkey's first unmanned fighter aircraft program. His work transformed Turkey into a key player in the global arms market.
