Ji Qi was born on October 1, 1966, in China. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Ji Qi's entrepreneurial journey is marked by the successful founding of several major companies. In 1997, he founded Shanghai Sunflower High-Tech Group. He co-founded Ctrip, China's first travel booking site, in 1999 and served as its CEO until 2001. In 2002, he co-founded Home Inns & Hotels Management Inc., where he served as CEO until 2005. In 2005, Ji Qi founded H World Group (formerly known as Huazhu Group and China Lodging Group), which operates over 12,000 hotels globally under various brands.
