Early Life
Aydın Doğan was born on April 15, 1936, in Kelkit, Gümüşhane Province, Turkey. He completed his primary and secondary education in Kelkit and Erzincan. Between 1956 and 1960, he attended the Istanbul Economy and Commerce Academy.
Rise to Success
Doğan began his business career in 1959, trading construction equipment and commercial vehicles. He founded his first industrial company in 1974. He entered the media industry in 1979 with the acquisition of the Milliyet newspaper and later acquired Hürriyet in 1994. He served as head of the Association of Turkish Newspaper Publishers between 1986 and 1996. In 2004, he became the first elected Turkish Deputy Chairperson of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN). In 2018, he sold his media portfolio, including prominent TV channels and newspapers, to Demirören Holding.

He expanded his media presence through strategic acquisitions, transforming Doğan Holding into a leading Turkish media group. In 2010, Aydın Doğan retired as head of Doğan Holding and became the honorary president.
Philanthropy
The Aydın Doğan Foundation was established to promote education and contribute to Turkey's development. The foundation launched the Aydın Doğan International Cartoon Competition in 1983.
