Early Life
Alexei Kuzmichev was born on October 15, 1962, in Kirov, Russia. From 1980 to 1982, he served in the Soviet Army as a radio operator on the Soviet-Chinese border. After his military service, he attended the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, where he met his future business partners, Mikhail Fridman and German Khan.
Rise to Success
In 1988, Kuzmichev, along with Fridman, Khan, and Mikhail Alfimov, founded Alfa Photo, which specialized in the import of photo chemicals. He later convinced his partners to diversify into exports, leading to the establishment of Alfa Eco in 1998, which became the foundation of the Alfa Group Consortium. Kuzmichev's career also includes co-founding the LetterOne Group, an international investment business based in Luxembourg, with a focus on the telecoms, technology, and energy sectors. In March 2013, Kuzmichev sold his stake in the energy venture TNK-BP for $2.5 billion.
