Huang Shilin

Early Life

Huang Shilin was born in 1967 in China. He displayed an early interest in science and technology, and excelled in his studies. He earned a Bachelor of Technology degree from Hefei University of Technology.

Rise to Success

Huang's career began in the energy sector in southern China, where he served as a Research and Development Director from 2004 to 2009, and later became Vice President. In 2011, he co-founded Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL). CATL has since become the world's largest supplier of batteries for the electric vehicle industry. Huang held several leadership positions at CATL, including General Manager, Director, and Vice Chairman. CATL's initial public offering on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2018 significantly increased Huang's wealth. He resigned from his position as Vice Chairman in August 2022 to pursue other business opportunities.

Key Business Strategies

A pivotal strategy was the co-founding of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL). Huang played a crucial role in establishing partnerships with major automotive manufacturers such as BMW, Volkswagen, and Geely, which positioned CATL as a global leader in EV battery supply. His foresight in the electric vehicle battery market and his strategic investments have been key to his financial success. As of 2018, Huang owned a 12% stake in CATL.
