Early Life
Wang Chuanfu was born on April 8, 1966, in Wuwei County, Anhui Province, China. He grew up in a poor farming family and was orphaned at a young age. Despite the difficult circumstances, Wang excelled academically and pursued higher education.
Rise to Success
Wang's career began with a degree in metallurgical physical chemistry from Central South University (formerly Central South Industrial University of Technology) and a master's degree from the Beijing Non-Ferrous Research Institute. He gained experience in business management and battery manufacturing. In 1995, at the age of 29, he founded BYD Company in Shenzhen with financial support from his cousin. BYD initially focused on manufacturing rechargeable batteries for mobile phones, quickly becoming a global leader in the industry. Recognizing the potential of electric vehicles, Wang expanded BYD into the automotive market in 2003, acquiring Tsinchuan Automobile Company. Under his leadership, BYD became a major player in the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, producing a range of electric and hybrid models. His focus on innovation and vertical integration has been key to BYD's success.

BYD has invested heavily in research and development, amassing thousands of patents in areas like battery technology, electric vehicles, and renewable energy. Philanthropy
Wang Chuanfu is involved in philanthropic efforts, contributing to education and charitable causes. In December 2024, BYD launched a 3-billion-yuan (approximately $416 million USD) education charity fund to support scholarships and promote NEV technologies, with initial donations to universities and science museums across China.
