Early Life
Su Hua was born in 1982 in Hunan Province, China, into a modest family. His village only received electricity in 1998. Despite limited resources, he developed a strong interest in technology from a young age. At 12, he began to learn coding on a children's learning program.
Rise to Success
After graduating from Tsinghua University, Su Hua worked as a software developer for Google in the United States and later for Baidu. In 2011, he co-founded Kuaishou with Cheng Yixiao. Initially a GIF-sharing app, Kuaishou evolved into a popular short-video and live-streaming platform. The company's initial success came from videos showcasing Chinese rural life. Kuaishou quickly became a major content community and social platform in China, with a global presence through its app Kwai.
Key Business Strategies
Kuaishou's success can be attributed to its user-generated content focus and AI integration for content recommendations. The platform also emphasizes live streaming and e-commerce, allowing users to purchase products directly. Kuaishou generates revenue through advertising, livestreaming, and e-commerce, competing with major players like Douyin (TikTok).
Philanthropy
In January 2023, Su Hua sold a portion of his shares for charity, with the proceeds going to an irrevocable foundation and investments in technology.
