Song Zuowen was born in 1947 in the village of Qiansong, Shandong province, China. His formal education ended at the primary school level, but he displayed a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial drive from an early age. In 1978, he began his business career, purchasing and selling lumber.

Song Zuowen's initial ventures laid the foundation for what would become the Nanshan Group. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he guided the local community to capitalize on the opportunities arising from China's economic reforms. Under Song's leadership, Shandong Nanshan Aluminium Company Limited was established in 1993. After years of development, the company was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 1999. Nanshan Group then expanded into various sectors, including textiles, real estate, education, tourism, and aviation.
