Early Life
Miguel Fluxà Rosselló was born in July 1938 in Majorca, Spain. He is the third-generation heir to a family with roots in the footwear industry. His grandfather, Antonio Fluxà, founded the shoe-making shop Lottusse in 1877, and his father, Llorenç Fluxà Figuerola, expanded the family business.
Rise to Success
Fluxà's career took a turn towards hospitality when he joined his father in the tourism business. In 1986, he opened his first Iberostar hotel, marking the beginning of a successful venture. He expanded the group through strategic acquisitions, including an airline and cruise company, eventually focusing on hotels. In 2006, he sold the group's tour operator and travel agency divisions to concentrate on the hotel division, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.
Key Business Strategies
Fluxà has been instrumental in transforming Iberostar into a global hospitality brand. Key strategies include a focus on all-inclusive resorts, family ownership, and sustainability. The company now operates over 100 properties in 16 countries, with continuous expansion plans.
Philanthropy
Fluxà established the Fundacion Iberostar in 2004, a non-profit organization focused on education and improving living standards. Iberostar has also partnered with the TAMAR Project to help preserve sea turtles and built an educational center for children in partnership with UNICEF, named after Miguel Fluxà Rosselló.
