Early Life
Miguel Fluxa Rossello was born in July 1938 in Majorca, Spain. He is the third-generation heir to a shoe-making business that his grandfather, Antonio Fluxà, started in 1877. The family's entrepreneurial spirit influenced his future endeavors. In 1956, the family entered the tourism industry with the acquisition of Viajes Iberia, which his father, Llorenç Fluxà Figuerola, expanded.
Rise to Success
In 1986, Miguel Fluxa joined the family company and, together with his father, opened the first Iberostar hotels in Majorca and the Canary Islands. After his father's death in 1993, he led the opening of the group's first international location in the Dominican Republic. He expanded the group through acquisitions, including an airline company and a cruise company. In 2006, Fluxa sold most of the group's tourism subsidiaries to focus on the hotel division.
Key Business Strategies
Fluxa's key business strategy has been to focus on quality, sustainability and responsible tourism. His vision has led to the growth of Iberostar into a global hospitality brand with a strong commitment to the well-being of the environment. In 2020, Iberostar presented its 2030 Agenda, focused on eliminating waste, sourcing responsible seafood, neutralizing carbon emissions, and improving the health of the ecosystems surrounding its hotels. The company signed a long-term commercial alliance with InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (IHG) in November 2022.
Philanthropy
In 2004, Miquel Fluxà Rosselló founded the Fundacion Iberostar, a non-profit organization focused on sustainable tourism and social responsibility.
