Early Life
Daniel Sundheim was born in 1976 or 1977 in New York City. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1999 with a degree in economics.
Rise to Success
Sundheim began his career in investment banking at Bear Stearns, working in the Merchant Banking Group. He then joined Viking Global Investors in 2002, where he spent 15 years, eventually becoming Chief Investment Officer. In 2018, Sundheim founded D1 Capital Partners, inspired by Jeff Bezos's "Day One" philosophy. D1 Capital focuses on investing in global markets across public and private sectors. Sundheim started D1 with more than $500 million of his own money. D1 Capital's main fund returned 27% in 2021, but declined in 2022. In 2024, D1 gained 34% through September.
