He obtained a Master's degree in Mechanical Sciences from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, U.K., and later earned an MBA with distinction from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A.. He was recognized for his academic excellence, being on the Dean's list at Wharton and a life member of Beta Gamma Sigma.

He is the Chairman of the Triveni Group, encompassing Triveni Turbine Ltd. and Triveni Engineering and Industries Ltd., with a combined market capitalization exceeding $3 billion. Triveni Turbine is a leading manufacturer of industrial steam turbines, while Triveni Engineering is a major sugar and ethanol producer. He was also the President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during India's economic liberalization program.
