Daniel Mate is a Spanish billionaire whose wealth stems from mining and commodities. He is a former head of zinc at Glencore, a major player in the industry. With a net worth of $2.7 billion as of February 2026, Mate's career began at Marc Rich & Co. in 1988 before transitioning to Glencore. He rose to co-directing the zinc, copper, and lead commodity department in 2000 and retired in July 2020. Beyond his business ventures, Mate is also a musical theatre lyricist and composer, with work recognized by the Edward Kleban Prize, a Jonathan Larson Foundation Grant, and the Cole Porter Award for Music and Lyrics.
