Nirmal Minda's journey began with a family business established by his father, Shadilal Minda, in 1958. Initially, a small workshop in Delhi focused on motorcycle electrical accessories, it marked the humble beginnings of what would become a significant automotive components manufacturer. Nirmal joined the family business in 1977.

Nirmal Minda's career took off when he joined the family business in 1977, starting in marketing. A pivotal moment in his career came after separating from his brother in 1996, allowing him to take UNO Minda to unprecedented heights. The company expanded its product range and entered international markets. By 2020, Uno Minda ventured into making EV parts such as lights and sensors.

Key strategies included forming joint ventures, such as the one with Tokai Rika for electronic components and automotive switches, and expanding the product line to include alloy wheels, sensors and battery systems for EVs. Philanthropy
Nirmal Minda, along with his wife Suman Minda, founded the Suman Nirmal Minda Charitable Foundation, which spearheaded Samarth-Jyoti, a CSR welfare program. The foundation runs senior secondary schools, a multi-specialty hospital and Samarth Jyoti centers, impacting underprivileged communities across India. His philanthropic endeavors include focus on education and healthcare.
