Early Life
Cheng Yixiao was born in 1985 and raised in Tieling, Liaoning, China. He received a bachelor's degree in software engineering from the Software College of Northeastern University. Before founding Kuaishou, he worked as a software engineer and developer at Hewlett-Packard from August 2007 to July 2009 and later at Renren Inc. from September 2009 to February 2011.
Rise to Success
Cheng co-founded Kuaishou in 2011. Initially, the app was a tool for creating and sharing animated pictures (GIFs). In 2013, he partnered with Su Hua, and they pivoted Kuaishou into a video-sharing app, with Cheng as Chief Product Officer (CPO) and Su as CEO. Kuaishou's focus on third- and fourth-tier cities and rural areas helped it gain traction, eventually becoming a major competitor in the short video market. Kuaishou went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in February 2021. Cheng became the CEO in October 2021 and added the role of Chairman in October 2023.
Key Business Strategies
Cheng has been responsible for overseeing product-related matters, including incubating new businesses like e-commerce and online games and the maintenance and development of the Kuaishou ecosystem. Under his leadership, Kuaishou has focused on monetization, particularly through livestreamed e-commerce.
