Early Life
Wang Yusuo was born in 1964 in Bazhou, Hebei province, China. His early life was marked by a strong drive for education, although he faced initial challenges. He failed the university entrance examination three times before eventually earning a bachelor's degree from Renmin University of China in 1994, followed by a postgraduate degree in 2002, and a doctorate in Business Management from Tianjin University of Finance and Economics in 2007. Despite these academic hurdles, his determination reflects a deep appreciation for formal education.
Rise to Success
Wang's entrepreneurial journey began with small businesses, including selling bottled gas in 1986. This venture provided the foundation for his future success in the gas distribution industry. In 1989, Wang, along with his wife Zhao Baoju, co-founded the ENN Group. The company initially started in the car rental sector, but Wang quickly recognized the potential in the energy sector, establishing Langfang Gas Co. Limited. In 1997, he restructured the company to form ENN Group Co. Limited. By 1993, ENN had already established utilities in over 70 Chinese cities, serving millions of customers. He stepped down as chairman of ENN Group in March 2025 but still sits on the board.
Key Business Strategies
Wang Yusuo's business strategy has focused on the strategic distribution of clean energy infrastructure, particularly natural gas. ENN Group is a dominant force in private natural gas distribution in China. Wang has consistently emphasized long-term investments in industrial assets and energy infrastructure, capitalizing on the growth of China's environmental and energy transition. Under his leadership, ENN Group expanded into solar energy, energy chemicals, and real estate. ENN has also expanded into the international market, with a vision of generating 50% of its revenues from foreign markets. ENN has partnered with companies like BASF for natural gas supply.
Philanthropy
Beyond his business endeavors, Wang is known for his philanthropic efforts. He founded the ENN Charitable Foundation in 2005 to support education, disaster relief, and poverty alleviation. His charitable initiatives demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility and community development.
