Early Life
Timothy Clare Headington was born in 1950. He is the son of Clare W. Headington, a geologist, and Catherine Meyer Headington. He has a brother named Gregory Headington and a sister named Jeanette Kern. He attended the University of Oklahoma on a tennis scholarship, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He later received graduate degrees in theology and psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He completed his psychology residency at Los Angeles County Hospital and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.
Rise to Success
Inspired by his geologist father, Headington founded Headington Oil in 1978 in Oklahoma City. The company later moved to Dallas. Headington is the president and sole shareholder of Headington Resources, Inc., which focuses on oil and gas, real estate, film production, private equity, and entertainment. In 2008, Headington sold acreage in North Dakota's Bakken oil play for $1.85 billion.
