Early Life
Andrei Vasilievich Filatov was born on December 18, 1971, in Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union. He developed a passion for chess during his early years. Filatov graduated from the Academy of Physical Education and Sports of the Republic of Belarus with a diploma as a Physical Culture Instructor and Chess Coach. He was a Candidate for Master of Sport of the USSR (chess).
Rise to Success
Filatov's career began in the businesses in Murmansk's port. In 1996, he co-founded Severstaltrans with Konstantin Nikolaev and Nikita Mishin. The company was later renamed N-Trans. The trio also saw an increase in their wealth after taking Global Ports Investments public. Filatov is the chairman of the Board of Directors of Tuloma investment company and co-owner of the Globaltrans company.

He funded the restoration of the tombstone monument to Alexander Alekhine, the first world champion who was Russian by birth, in Paris.
