Anand Burman was born in Kolkata, India, in 1952, into a Punjabi Khatri business family with deep roots in the Ayurvedic and consumer goods sector. He completed his initial schooling at St. Paul's School in Darjeeling. His academic journey led him to the United States, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Science in Chemistry followed by a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Kansas in 1980.
Rise to Success
Burman joined the family-owned Dabur India Limited in 1980 as the Manager of Research and Development. He rose to the company's board in 1986 and became Chairman in 2007. He played a crucial role in transforming Dabur into a multinational enterprise and spearheaded its global expansion to over 100 countries. Under his leadership, Dabur accelerated its international presence through targeted acquisitions and market entries. He also emphasized sustainability and research and development, integrating modern scientific methods with traditional Ayurvedic practices. He stepped down as Chairman in 2019 and currently holds the position of Chairman Emeritus.
