Rise to Success
Shu Ping, alongside her husband Zhang Yong, co-founded Haidilao International Holding in 1994 with a few other partners. The first Haidilao outlet was located in Jianyang, Sichuan province, China. Haidilao's initial success came from providing attentive customer service, which included free manicures and massages to patrons waiting for a table. The company went public in Hong Kong in September 2018, which led to Shu Ping and her husband debuting on Forbes' list of billionaires. In 2023, Shu Ping became the chairman of Super Hi, the overseas business of Haidilao.
Key Business Strategies
Haidilao's success is attributed to its focus on attentive customer service and expansion through franchising. The company spun off its overseas business, Super Hi, which went public in Hong Kong in 2022 and had a dual listing on Nasdaq in 2024. As of December 17, 2024, Shu Ping increased her shareholding in Super Hi by 1.5 million shares, with her total shareholding rising to 51.92%.
