Radik Shaimiev was born on November 14, 1964, in Kazan, Russia. He is the son of Mintimer Shaimiev, who served as the first president of Tatarstan. He graduated from the Kazan Institute of Civil Engineering with a Master of Science in Engineering.
Rise to Success
Shaimiev's career began with an engineering role at Kazgrazhdanproyekt in 1989. He then moved to the research and production center of the Kazan foreign trade association. In 1992, he became the director of NIRA-Export LLC. His breakthrough came as a co-owner of the TAIF Group during Russia's privatization era in the mid-1990s. TAIF Group, a large regional holding company with assets in the Republic of Tatarstan, was a major source of his wealth. In 2021, TAIF merged with petrochemical company Sibur, and Shaimiev and other TAIF shareholders received a 15% stake in the combined entity.
