Early Life
Michael Kadoorie was born in Hong Kong in 1941, into a prominent Jewish family with roots in Baghdad. His grandfather, Elly Kadoorie, established the family business in Hong Kong in 1880. His early childhood was marked by the Second World War, during which his family was interned by Japanese forces. Kadoorie was educated at Kowloon Junior School in Hong Kong and Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland.
Rise to Success
Kadoorie joined the family enterprises in the early 1960s. He became chairman of China Light & Power (now CLP Holdings) in 1967 at the age of 26. He also became chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels in 1985. Under his leadership, CLP Holdings expanded its operations and infrastructure in Hong Kong and Mainland China. He has overseen the growth of the Peninsula Hotels, maintaining their reputation for luxury and excellence.
