Early Life
Zhou Qunfei was born in 1970 in Xiangxiang, Hunan province, China, the youngest of three children in a poor family. Her mother died when she was five years old, and her father, a former soldier, became partially blind and lost a finger in an industrial accident. As a child, she helped her family raise animals and collect plastic waste to support her family. Due to financial constraints, she dropped out of secondary school at the age of 16.
Rise to Success
Zhou moved to Shenzhen to work as a migrant worker. She worked near Shenzhen University and attended part-time courses in accounting, computer operations, and customs processing. In 1993, at the age of 22, Zhou founded her first company, a watch parts business, with savings of around $3,000 in a rented apartment. The company later transitioned to manufacturing watch glass. In 2001, her company secured a contract to manufacture phone screens for TCL Corporation. In 2003, she founded Lens Technology, specializing in touch screen production. The company began supplying Motorola with glass screens. Her company started supplying Apple in 2007. Lens Technology went public in 2015, making Zhou China's richest woman at the time.
