Lim Kok Thay

Early Life

Lim Kok Thay was born on August 16, 1951, in Malaysia. He is the second son of Lim Goh Tong, the founder of the Genting Group. His early life was marked by the hard work and determination that would shape his future success.

Rise to Success

Lim graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of London and attended the Advanced Management Programme of Harvard Business School. He joined the family business, Genting Group, in 1976. He was appointed a director of Genting Group in 1976 and became the Chairman and Chief Executive in December 2003. Under his leadership, Genting expanded globally and diversified its operations. He spearheaded the development of Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.

Lim is known for his calculated risk-taking and ability to identify global leisure trends. Key strategies included the global expansion of Genting, developing key brands like Resorts World, and establishing partnerships with companies such as Universal Studios. He has also overseen the expansion into plantations, energy, and biotechnology.

Lim is dedicated to philanthropy and education, serving as a visiting professor at Imperial College, London, and an honorary professor at Xiamen University in China.
