Zhou Chengjian was born in 1966 in Qingtian County, Lishui, Zhejiang Province, China. He came from a rural farming family and started his career as a tailor. Zhou began his entrepreneurial journey at the age of twenty, starting his own business in 1986.

In the 1990s, Zhou founded Metersbonwe Group in Wenzhou with a loan of 200,000 yuan. He pursued further education and obtained an EMBA degree from Zhejiang University. Under his leadership, Metersbonwe grew to become the largest casualwear retail brand in China. Zhou's wealth and influence grew significantly, and in 2008, his net worth, along with his family, was estimated to be $1.9 billion by the Hurun Report.
