Jose Isaac Peres was born in Rio de Janeiro. He demonstrated entrepreneurial skills from a young age. He is an economist, having studied at Faculdade Nacional de Economia da Universidade do Brasil.
Rise to Success
Peres began his entrepreneurial journey in 1963 at age 22 by starting Veplan Imobiliária, a real estate development company in Rio de Janeiro. He transformed Veplan into a publicly-traded company. In 1974, Peres founded Multiplan Empreendimentos Imobiliários S.A. His vision was to create premium shopping centers, blending retail, entertainment, and real estate value appreciation. Multiplan grew to become one of the largest shopping mall operators in Brazil. By 2024, the company managed 19 shopping centers, with over 5,400 stores and approximately 180 million visitors annually.

Peres's business strategy centered on developing high-end shopping centers with a focus on lifestyle. He anticipated consumer needs by including not only stores but also services and entertainment. Multiplan was one of the first to incorporate cinemas, restaurants, amusement parks, and cultural events into its shopping centers.
