Early Life
Edwin Leong Siu-hung was born in Guangdong, China, in either 1951 or 1952. His father, Henry G. Leong, was a comprador for Jardine Matheson. Leong's father passed away when Edwin was only nine years old. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Science degree from the University of Toronto.
Rise to Success
After returning to Hong Kong from Canada, Leong founded Tai Hung Fai Enterprise in 1977. Initially, the company focused on property investment and management, specializing in retail properties and hotels. Leong's strategy of acquiring properties during the Asian financial crisis propelled his success, earning him the moniker "King of Shops" for his dominance in the retail property market.

Leong's business philosophy centers on strategic property investments, with a keen focus on market timing. His focus has been on acquiring older buildings and redeveloping them. This approach has enabled him to amass an extensive portfolio of over 1,000 properties, including hotels, serviced apartments, retail shops, residential buildings, office buildings, and industrial buildings.

Leong is actively involved in philanthropy, viewing it as a moral responsibility. Through the Tai Hung Fai Charitable Foundation, he supports healthcare, education, and underprivileged communities. His contributions include funding medical research and providing healthcare for the elderly and underprivileged.
