Early Life and Education
Cao Renxian was born into a rural family in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. He demonstrated academic excellence from a young age. Cao received a bachelor's and master's degree in industrial automation from Hefei University of Technology. After graduating, he became a professor at Hefei University of Technology in 1993.
Rise to Success
In 1997, Cao founded Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd.. He identified a growing market for renewable energy and developed the company to create renewable energy products such as solar photovoltaic (PV) inverters, wind power converters, and energy storage systems. Sungrow initially focused on inverters, devices that convert solar power into usable electricity, which was a risky business in China's early solar market. Sungrow's breakthrough came in 2002 with a government project to bring electricity to remote villages. The company expanded and secured venture capital, fueling its growth and global expansion.
Key Business Strategies
Cao's success has been attributed to a combination of factors, including a visionary approach, strategic foresight, and timely market entries. Sungrow expanded its international presence, establishing itself in global markets like the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the United States. The company has consistently invested in research and development. Sungrow's early investment in energy storage systems, before batteries became a mainstream necessity, positioned the company favorably in the market, especially with the rise of AI-driven power demands.
