Early Life
Alexander Frank Beard was born on August 3, 1967. He attended Gravesend Grammar School for Boys and later studied at Christ Church, Oxford University, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry in 1989. His early career involved a stint as an oil trader at BP from 1990 to 1994.
Rise to Success
Beard joined Glencore in 1995. He ascended within the company, eventually becoming the CEO of Glencore's worldwide oil department in 2007. During his tenure, Glencore expanded its global oil trading business significantly. In 2011, Glencore's Initial Public Offering on the London exchange made Beard a billionaire. He retired from Glencore in 2019.
