Early Life
Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni was born on October 24, 1943, in Rufino, Santa Fe Province, Argentina. His parents were of Italian and Spanish descent. He obtained a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Buenos Aires.
Rise to Success
Bulgheroni joined his father's company, Bridas Corporation, in 1965. In 1985, after his father's death, Alejandro and his brother Carlos took over the company. They expanded Bridas into oil and gas exploration and production. A key milestone was selling a 50% stake in Bridas to China's CNOOC Group in 2010 for $3.1 billion. Bulgheroni also played a crucial role in forming Pan American Energy (PAE) in partnership with British Petroleum (BP), which boosted production and became a major hydrocarbon producer in Argentina.
Key Business Strategies
Bulgheroni's business strategy included acquiring Axion Energy Argentina and venturing into the wine industry. He owns more than 10 vineyards globally, including Bodega Garzón in Uruguay, which won the New World Winery of The Year award in 2018. Bulgheroni has also been involved in negotiations for significant energy projects, such as the Trans-Afghanistan Gas Pipeline.
Philanthropy
Bulgheroni is involved in philanthropy through the Bulgheroni Foundation, supporting education, healthcare, and the arts. He is also a UNWTO Special Ambassador for Gastronomy Tourism.
