Early Life and Education
Zhang Jianhui was born in 1978 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China. He pursued higher education in electrical engineering, earning a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from Tsinghua University in Beijing. He then obtained a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2006. His research focused on power conditioning systems and grid-tie battery energy storage.
Career
Before establishing HyperStrong, Zhang worked as an engineer at National Semiconductor Corporation in the United States and later at Siemens in China. These experiences provided him with expertise in semiconductors and energy technologies, which influenced his later ventures.
Rise to Success
In 2011, Zhang founded Beijing HyperStrong Technology Co., Ltd. to address the growing needs in renewable energy integration. Under his leadership as chairman and CEO, HyperStrong has grown to be a key player in China's green energy sector. The company went public on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market in January 2025, which raised approximately $121 million. Shares subsequently increased nearly 500% due to rising global demand for energy storage technologies.
