Vincent Lo Hong-sui was born in Hong Kong on April 18, 1948. He is the son of Lo Ying-shek, a Hong Kong property tycoon. Lo graduated from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 1969, with a Bachelor of Arts/Economics.
Rise to Success
Lo started his business with a loan of HK$100,000 from his father. His early ventures included investing in Shanghai, where he built a hotel in partnership with the Shanghainese Communist Youth League in 1984. A major turning point in his career was the development of Xintiandi, a $170 million property development project in Shanghai, which transformed a historic area into a vibrant entertainment and retail district. In 1995, he acquired his first cement plant in Chongqing, which made Shui On Group one of China's top three cement companies.
