Rubens Menin Teixeira de Souza was born on March 12, 1956, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He comes from a family with a strong engineering background; his paternal grandfather was an engineer. This family tradition influenced his early interest in engineering, leading him to pursue a degree in civil engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), which he completed in 1978.
Rise to Success
Menin's entrepreneurial journey began in 1979 when he co-founded MRV Engenharia with two partners. MRV started as a homebuilding company focused on affordable housing, a sector often overlooked by other construction firms. Under Menin's leadership, MRV grew to become Brazil's leading homebuilder, playing a significant role in providing housing solutions. His strategic focus on the lower-income segment and innovative approaches contributed to MRV's success.
Key Business Strategies
Menin's key business strategies included diversifying his business interests. Besides MRV Engenharia, he founded Banco Inter, a digital bank, and Log Commercial Properties. These ventures reflect his ability to identify and capitalize on emerging market opportunities. Furthermore, he expanded into media with the acquisition of Rádio Itatiaia in May 2021 and the launch of CNN Brasil in 2019.
