Koo Bon-sik was born on June 28, 1958, in South Korea. He is the youngest son of Koo Ja-kyung, who served as the chairman of the LG Group from 1970 to 1995. Koo Ja-kyung played a crucial role in expanding LG from a chemical firm to a multinational conglomerate. Koo Bon-sik received his education at Shinil High School, graduating in 1976. He then pursued higher education at Korea University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1980. Following this, he obtained a Master of Science in Materials Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1985.
