Early Life
Petro Oleksiiovych Poroshenko was born on September 26, 1965, in Bolhrad, Odessa Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. After his military service from 1984-1986, Poroshenko graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv with a degree in International Economic Relations.
Rise to Success
In 1993, Poroshenko became CEO of Ukrprominvest, a holding company involved in various industries. His business acumen led him to the cocoa bean trade, and in 1996, he founded Roshen, a confectionery manufacturer. Roshen grew to become a major player in the chocolate and candy market. The company's success earned him the nickname "Chocolate King." In 1998, Poroshenko entered politics, being elected to the Ukrainian parliament.

Poroshenko's key business strategy involved acquiring confectionery plants and uniting them under the Roshen brand. Roshen expanded, with factories in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and other locations.
