Robert Tönnies was born on May 29, 1978, in Rheda, Germany. He is the younger of two sons of Bernd Tönnies, the founder of the Tönnies Group, and his wife Evelin. Following his father's death in 1994, Robert and his older brother Clemens Jr. inherited the majority of the shares in the family business.
Rise to Success
After graduating from the Kaufmännische Schule der Stadt Gütersloh in 2000, Robert completed his military service. He then underwent training as a butcher at the Swiss company Micarna, which he finished in 2002. He later earned a degree in Business Administration from Fachhochschule Hannover in 2004. Robert began his career in 2005 in the sales department of the Tönnies Group's main plant in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Soon after, he was appointed to the management of the Sögel site in Lower Saxony. In 2007, he moved to the management of the Weißenfels slaughterhouse, where he successfully improved profitability.
