Early Life and Education
Patrick Drahi was born on August 20, 1963, in Casablanca, Morocco, to a Jewish family. His parents were mathematics teachers, which instilled in him an early appreciation for numbers and analytical thinking. At the age of 15, Drahi and his family moved to France, where he pursued his education. He attended the École Polytechnique in Paris, a prestigious institution known for producing successful business leaders, and later earned a postgraduate degree in optics and electronics from Télécom Paris.
Rise to Success
After completing his postgraduate degree in 1986, Drahi began his career as a fiber optics researcher at Philips. He left Philips in 1990 to venture into business for himself. In the mid-1990s, he co-founded two cable companies in the south of France. These ventures caught the attention of John Malone's UPC, leading to a share deal buyout that yielded Drahi a considerable profit. In 2001, Drahi founded Altice, a holding company that would become the cornerstone of his telecommunications empire. Through strategic acquisitions and a focus on undervalued assets, Altice expanded rapidly, acquiring cable companies across Europe, the US, and Israel.
Key Business Strategies
Drahi is known for his aggressive acquisition strategy, often leveraging debt to finance his expansion. He has a reputation for identifying undervalued assets and implementing cost-cutting measures to increase profitability. His approach has been described as a combination of telecom and financial engineering, allowing him to build a vast network of telecommunications and media holdings. A significant move was his purchase of Sotheby's auction house in 2019, diversifying his portfolio.

Patrick Drahi is known for his philanthropic efforts, primarily through the Patrick and Lina Drahi Foundation. The foundation supports various causes, including education, healthcare, and cultural initiatives.
