Paolo Ardoino was born in 1984 in Cisano sul Neva, Savona, Italy. From a young age, he displayed a keen interest in computer hardware, networking, and cryptography, beginning to code at age eight. He pursued his passion further by attending the University of Genoa, where he earned a bachelor's degree in computer science in 2008. During his time at the university, he also engaged in research projects focusing on cybersecurity and cryptography, laying the groundwork for his future career.
Career
Ardoino's career began with research at the University of Genoa, contributing to projects involving cybersecurity and cryptography. He then transitioned to the private sector, taking on a role at Frame Asset Management as a full-stack developer in 2010. In 2011, he worked in a hedge fund, developing and calibrating trading algorithms. In 2012, he co-founded Fincluster, a technology company focused on building cloud-based financial applications for fund managers and institutions. Ardoino's career took a significant turn in 2014 when he joined Bitfinex as a Senior Software Developer. His work at Bitfinex focused on optimizing the exchange's backend infrastructure and trading engine, which led to his promotion to Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in 2016. In 2017, Ardoino also became the CTO of Tether, overseeing the expansion of USDT across multiple blockchains. In December 2023, he was appointed as the CEO of Tether.
