Early Life and Education
Paolo Ardoino was born in Cisano sul Neva, Italy, in 1984. From a young age, Ardoino was deeply intrigued by technology and finance, two worlds that would shape his career in the cryptocurrency sector. He started coding at the age of eight. He obtained a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Genoa.
Rise to Success
After graduating, Ardoino joined the University of Genoa as a researcher, working on cybersecurity and cryptography projects. In 2013, he moved to London and founded Fincluster, a tech startup that built cloud-based financial service applications. In 2014, Ardoino joined Bitfinex as a software engineer. Two years later, in 2016, he transitioned to the role of chief technology officer. In 2017, Ardoino became chief technology officer of Tether. In December 2023, he was appointed CEO of Tether, succeeding Jean-Louis van der Velde.

Ardoino's leadership has been key in Tether's success. Under his guidance, Tether has expanded its presence in the larger crypto industry and has increased its presence in the DeFi ecosystem. Ardoino has also advocated for more transparency in the stablecoin sector. Tether publishes frequent reports on its reserves, bolstering its credibility and position in the DeFi sector. Philanthropy
Ardoino directs investments from Tether's profits, not customer reserves. Under Ardoino, Tether has supported El Salvador's Volcano Energy renewable power project. Ardoino has also led Tether to invest in the growth of renewable energy and sustainable Bitcoin mining in Uruguay.
