Early Life
Mustafa Rahmi Koç was born on October 9, 1930, in Ankara, Turkey. He is the only son of Vehbi Koç, the founder of the Koç Group. He attended Robert College in Istanbul and later studied industrial management at Johns Hopkins University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. He began his career in the family business in 1958 after completing his military service.
Rise to Success
Rahmi Koç joined the Koç Group in 1958, taking on roles at Otokoç Company in Ankara and Koç Ticaret. In 1964, when Koç Holding's headquarters moved to Istanbul, he became the general coordinator. He advanced, becoming chairman of the executive committee in 1970 and deputy chairman in 1975. He was appointed chairman of the Koç Holding management committee in 1980. On March 30, 1984, he succeeded his father, Vehbi Koç, as the chairman of Koç Holding, a position he held until 2003. He is now the Honorary Chairman of Koç Holding.

Under Rahmi Koç's leadership, Koç Holding expanded its investments across various sectors, including automotive, consumer durables, energy, finance, retail, tourism, agriculture, and shipbuilding.
