Early Life
Mohamed Mansour was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in January 1948, into a prominent business family. His family's business, Mansour Group, survived the nationalization and confiscation of assets in 1965. He earned an engineering degree from North Carolina State University in 1968 and an MBA from Auburn University in 1971. He taught at Auburn University until 1973.
Rise to Success
Mansour took an active role in the family business, Mansour Group, strengthening ties with US companies. After his father's passing in 1976, he took over the leadership of the group. He built close ties as distributors for prominent US companies such as Chevrolet, Marlboro, General Motors, and Caterpillar. He led the group to become a $6 billion conglomerate. Mansour served as Egypt's Minister of Transport from 2006 to 2009.
Key Business Strategies
Under Mansour's leadership, Mansour Group expanded into various sectors, including automotive, construction, and retail. His strategies included forming partnerships with major international brands and expanding geographically. Mansour also established Man Capital in London, a private investment arm that invested in early-stage tech companies. The Mansour Group is the largest General Motors dealer in the world and the fifth-largest distributor of Caterpillar Inc. products globally.
Philanthropy
Mohamed Mansour is known for his philanthropic endeavors. He is the founder of the Lead Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides funding to small and micro-enterprises operated by underprivileged women in Egypt. The foundation has granted over 5 million loans. He also supports HRH The Prince's Foundation and Dumfries House in the UK.
