Early Life
Luis Enrique Yarur Rey was born in Santiago, Chile, on December 18, 1950. He comes from a family with a strong banking heritage, with his grandfather Juan Yarur Lolas founding Banco de Crédito e Inversiones (BCI) in 1937. He earned a law degree from the University of Navarra in Spain and later obtained a Master of Business Administration from IESE Business School, also in Spain.
Rise to Success
Yarur Rey joined BCI in 1975 and rose to prominence within the bank. He became the CEO and later the Chairman of BCI, leading the bank for over four decades. Under his leadership, BCI expanded and diversified its operations. He played a pivotal role in the acquisition of City National Bank of Florida in 2015, marking a significant milestone for the bank. He stepped down as chairman in January 2025, handing over the role to his son, Ignacio Yarur Arrasate.
