Liesel Pritzker Simmons was born Liesel Anne Pritzker on March 14, 1984, in Chicago, Illinois. She is a member of the Pritzker family, a prominent family known for their vast wealth and diverse business interests, including the Hyatt Hotels. Her father was Robert Pritzker, and her mother is Irene Dryburgh. Liesel was named after the character Liesl von Trapp from "The Sound of Music".
